The Endeavour
The 2013 SDR refers to the Fall Salty Dawg Rally where at last count 105 sailing vessels will be leaving from ports along the East Coast to Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands -- all offshore Blue Water Sailing. The official start of the rally is November 4th and the offical start port is Hampton, Va., but this is a "loose" rally and we will leave when the weather window allows us to cross the Gulf Stream and head down to the Islands, thus we might leave a few days earlier or later than that date. Some boats will start from ports other than Norfolk -- we will start from Beaufort, NC. The boat I'll be crewing on is a 40 foot Caliber LRC (Long Range Cruiser). It is owned and skippered by Bob and Mona Jankowski. I will be crew aboard as well as another fellow named Steve. Hopefully I'll be able to post a daily blog using the HF SSB radio aboard along with a Pactor Modem and connecting to WINLINK shore sites to post via the internet. If I miss a day don't be woried because it could just be poor radio propagation. You can see our progress via the position reporter in this blog or the position reporter at the Salty Dawg Rally web site. Welcome Aboard!!
